Pre-Race Report/ March 2005 Update

Hello Everyone,
I though I would sent out a little update, it occurred to me recently that it’s been a while since I sent one out. As those of you who I talk to often know, last semester at school was particularly difficult for me, it seemed like every time I finished one essay I had another, or a midterm, or an assignment, etc, etc, etc… Plus of course my dog was run over (She’s alright now). By the time I hit Christmas I was severely burned out and dying for a break. So I took a couple weeks out and regrouped, had some fun with friends and family, standard holiday stuff, and came back here re-focused and ready to go. I’m happy to report that this semester, while somewhat intense in terms of material (2 neuroscience courses – who knew the brain was so complicated, honestly?), has been much less stressful and training has been coming along fabulously.
So, now that everyone has a rough idea of how my winter has gone, I’ll get down to some upcoming fun- the first race of the season! The Hamilton “Around the Bay/ Bay and Back” road races will be held next weekend (March 20). While the main event will be the 30km “Around the Bay” road run, I will be racing in the 5km “Bay and Back” road run. This race is simply a fun run to get and idea of where my fitness is at this point and shake the winter blahs out of my legs, which are desperate for warm weather right now. I really have no idea what to expect; while I haven’t done any speed work yet this year but my legs have been feeling amazing the last couple of weeks- so much so that I’m thinking a personal best is a real possibility. So who knows, anything can happen.

I also want to take a moment to say a huge “Thank You” to everyone on this list for your help last year. Without you I wouldn’t have been able to achieve any of the amazing results I did. The reality is that while triathlon may appear to be an individual sport, I can’t do it by myself. It’s the foundation of support underneath me that’s helping to keep me on the top, whether its repairs on my bike (which most of you know I’m somewhat inept with), financial help, or just sideline and moral support, it all makes my life much easier and I’m so grateful that you’re all there for me. I’m hoping to have a race schedule and season outlook for this year together in the next month or so, and I hope that you all will come back as sponsors. Of course it goes without saying (but I will anyways) that this years primary goal will be World Championships in October where I will be representing Canada.

Anyways, I’ll leave it at that for now, I have studying to do and an essay to write for Thursday. I’ve included some pictures from various indoor training days over the last couple of months, some from the YMCA in Midland and some from Healthy Results training studio in Orangeville.
Waiting for Summer,
Alex
